Get On With It

I am a member of ArtaroundTown – an active arts group in South Huron.  We encourage and support the arts and artists in the area with shows, sales, workshops . For the past two summers we have offered a successful summer workshop program called ‘Get on with it”.   It’s intent was to give a special opportunity to young people between the ages of 15 and 22 to develop their portfolio and have first hand experience in the studio of a professional artist and learn more about why and how artists develop their ideas.   In 2016 we focused on fine artists – painter, printmaker, sculptor and photographer.   Last year 2017 we turned to applied artists – potter, fiber artist, interior designer, stained glass and lessons in raku.   It was a great experience for the studentsto and we are so grateful and appreciative of the dedication and help we received from the artists involved.

Getting a taste of a medium and getting to know how an individual artist works is so inspiring.  This all kicked off with Kevin Bice in London who motivated the students to be receptive to a wide variety of influences and reasons to create.

And then great experiences every other Tuesday for the whole summer and then a culminating show in Port Franks.   What a great experience.
